I have an acoustic guitar / amp for Christmas and I am really trying to learn to play. I have a good music …. backround but the guitar is the instrument that I am really struggling to pick up. Do you know books or learning methods?
Go to a music store and buy a reputable book guitar chord theory that Basic music on it. You can teach notation and simple melodies – probably old songs from the late 1800s, but they work. Have also the names of the strings above the notes on the appropriate changes. There is much to focus on the guitar, but the agreements, the rhythm and basic theory should be your immediate goal. That's how I learned over 50 years.
