I get an electric guitar in about a month. I did my research and know exactly what I'm going to buy. You think it's beneficial to learn to read music before getting a guitar in my hands? It seems that learning to read music first reducing the share of frustration when I am trying to learn the fingering of the guitar. I mostly play classic rock, and this is my favorite kind of music. It is not necessary to read music before. Get your guitar and start to learn. I know you said you probably will not take over, but I have at least some first to make sure that your form is correct. I played for 10 years and I am always a bad bad habit that is formed when I started playing. You know how to get started if you want to learn to read music or tablature. It depends a bit on your goals – if only to play for you and / or play, then you really need to read music, but if you play classical or religious group or volunteer or anything then you should learn to read music ..
