Why learning the blues guitar so vital?
I love playing rock, but my guitar teacher told unofficially that the gods Blue players are. He also said it was good to learn, but never specified (big word = P) why.
Personally, I do not what your life in any way whatsoever. If you want to pentatonic scales, blues is a good way to start. But their are tons of musicians who can not not play the blues and the great guitarist. One name comes to mind. Dhage Reindhart which was influenced by the gypsy jazz. I'm not saying that it would not help your game, but not essential.
