I want to learn to play acoustic guitar. Where do I start?

I finally decided to teach me to play guitar. I intended to do for ages but never got him. I have about 3 books to learn to play guitar and a DVD or two .. But all say things a little different on how to start .. Where would you say is a good way to start and where to go from there? Thank you.
