Autism

My son was diagnosed with autism at age 2 years and 3 months. A month later was intense in one treatment based on the home. At five o'clock, was in a regular mainstream school, totally indistinguishable from their peers.

I quickly realized there was very little software available to teach children with autism. This document summarizes information on autism I have gained over the years and software used to help revive my son.

It is important to understand that without any treatment or intervention of autism, a child with autism or PDD are absorbed much less information and knowledge of the environment of a child typical. A typical child starts about 1.5 to 2 years, with almost no help from parents or siblings. Then acquire around 6 new words per day and have a vocabulary of 10,000 words before the astonishing age of seven. An autistic child may be verbal much later and have poor language skills and if no social speech and behavioral therapy. At least initially, an autistic child should be given a solid base knowledge, namely to teach speech, language and behavior appropriate age.

Start working with your child

If you suspect still your child has autism or ASD, begin to work with him immediately. Do not waste valuable time waiting for a formal diagnosis of autism. I met a mother who waited six months for a formal diagnosis of autism before starting any treatment. Imagine how he could have taught his son to that time. You will find yourself most doctors know very little about autism and is recommended as speech therapy, education or specialized early intervention center. The worst that some doctors make a parent is to remove hope. You'll get more information about autism from other parents of children with autism would be a doctor. When you work with your child and see the results, will soon find other parents of children newly diagnosed with autism who come to him for advice. Start working with your child, even if that means just trying to communicate with him in the game This time, it will never be in vain. Even if tests show that your child is not have an autistic disorder, which has lost nothing. Trying to teach an autistic child in the table may be difficult at first, because the child may resist learning and a lot of positive reinforcement and encouragement is essential. There are many methods for teaching structured children with autism, such as ABA, TEACCH, PECS and Greenspan, to name a few. Many parents who take their own strategies often very effective to teach their children at home.

Disclaimer
Many parents do not believe their child has an autistic disorder or even find a diagnosis. Too often, they ignore the obvious signs of autism in their children and somehow I hope to improve by itself. They typically wait until it is too late to start working with your child. Some apology I hear are: "This is very similar – it only twos," "My son started to talk to five", "Einstein was autistic and started talking at nine "," It will grow out of it "(and the list goes on …).

Diagnosis of autism

Although an early diagnosis of autism or PDD of this disorder is potentially devastating criticism, the Children with autism are rarely diagnosed before age 3 or 4 years. No external physical differences between children with autism and typical – in most children with autism are actually very beautiful. The only differences are behavioral. Autistic children have at least some of the following:
poor speech and language skills
Inappropriate play eg. the child may run continuously wheels of a toy car instead of push
May online toys or other objects
difficulty interacting with others
Poor eye contact
Walk over
Hand flapping
Tend to have very specific interests and abroad
None of calling things the same way than other children
Failure to show other items
If you are not fit its name is called
Failure to participate in the game where there is a back and forth between two people
The movements do not copy other engines
You can not use the points to draw attention another person
May resist social touch such as hugging

Autism Spectrum
An autistic child may be anywhere in the "spectrum" autism spectrum. At the upper end, the child may seem almost normal and have little autistic traits. It may be the quiet child in the classroom with little or no friends of a couple and bizarre habits. Not even a diagnosis of autism much later in life. At the lower end of the spectrum of autism, the child is called low-functioning, have a language bad language and require more intense therapy for autism. No matter where a child is on the autism spectrum, which can and must help.

PDD NOS and autism
Pervasive developmental disorder or PDD is actually a bit misleading. Many doctors do not want to commit to give a diagnosis of autism is to tell parents that their child has PDD NOS or PDD, when in fact the child is in autism or the spectrum of ASD.

Types of Autism
Some children are born with autism, while others develop the disease usually in their second year. The latter is known as late onset autism. The child begins life normally and gradually develop the symptoms of autism, loss of speech and shows gradually increasing symptoms if autism. If diagnosed and treated in time with each treatment, autistic children show a marked improvement, often to the point of being called "recovered". This is where the child with autism does not differ from their peers.

Asperger's Disorder and autism
syndrome Asperger, also called Asperger's syndrome is a type of pervasive developmental disorder (PDD or PDD-NOS) as defined by the American Psychiatric Association. Asperger syndrome is similar to high functioning autism that affects how a child's gestures and traits of socialization. A distinction between Asperger syndrome and autism is that children with Asperger syndrome often have normal language development, although the pace, tone and emphasis are irregular. Unlike autism, Asperger's is not slow other aspects of development, a child usually has age-appropriate autonomy and a stake in the world around him. However, as autism, children with Asperger's syndrome have abnormal social interactions, facial expressions and gestures. Asperger syndrome affects males 9 times more than females. Its cause is unknown. Further research is needed to confirm whether Asperger syndrome is a condition that is genetically linked to autism.

Autism and speech therapy
A common mistake is to assume that the speech is the solution for autism. The speech was undoubtedly place in refining patterns and speech of children and vocalization, but it takes several hours per week of intensive one on-one work to teach children to respect autism, new concepts, language and behavior appropriate age. An autistic child is likely to see a therapist for 1 to 2 hours per week. There remains much to have an autistic child to school and make it succeed in school once you get there. Once your child is in school, it would be appropriate to continue the speech therapy. Some schools have a speech therapist who works with children at the school itself. Autism and more schools later.

The Language is the key

The frustration of a child with autism is described as once in a maze where the walls are glass, trying to connect with someone on the outside and just be able to hit the walls. No doubt many of frustration and temper tantrums may be reduced or even avoided if communication and language is encouraged and developed. A typical child of the early works in their interest to acquire language, whereas children with autism can not. We must learn this language will get results. At this point, if his son asks for some thing, give it, or at least respond to your request promptly. Ignoring it will not encourage his speech.

When I start treating a child with autism?

If a child has autism, the clock has already started to score before the diagnosis. Most gains will be realized when the child is in his early years. Although children as young as 18 months of treatment for autism most are diagnosed after 2 years of age and begin treatment even later. Whatever you do, do not let up it is too late. In short, before starting to teach a child with autism, the better.

Autism treatment

Of all therapies for autism in all ABA (Applied Behavior Analysis) has attracted the most attention. The system developed by the Dr. Ivar Lovaas at UCLA in the Sixties is an educational program working in the systematic elimination of the "features" of autism that the child does not meet the criteria of the state. The system is very intense, but was a great success in almost all cases of autism. The education system applied behavior analysis essentially breaks every task into subtasks and puts a strong emphasis on children and rewarding work. There is no difficulty at all in the system. Autism begins in a very rigid structure, but it gradually takes the shape of a typical school environment. Those who know little or nothing about the ABA can say it's too rigid, the child becomes a "robot" by learning by heart. It sounds good at first but as the child learns to learn, which progresses to a point where you can meet with their peers typical learning style. Most parents who persevere in the program two to three years of success can add their children. The results speak for themselves. The child usually start school, attend classes with an assistant. The wizard goes "missing" and mixtures of children in the class. More counselors, then disappear. An excellent software is "discrete trial Trainer" that uses principles of applied behavior analysis to rapidly increase a child's language. We have this product in our range of software.

How hours?

A question that arises is how many hours of behavioral therapy must have a child with autism need? There are many cases where an autistic child needs up to 40 hours per week, but of course, depends on the severity of the child. A program usually starts with about 15 to 20 hours per week and can operate for 30 hours or more per week. Once an autistic child to school, time work in the country will fall again. Quality is, of course, more important than quantity and energetic, skilled therapists are essential to the progress of your child.

Work with your child
I strongly suggest that parents begin to work with the child at least initially, rather to leave a therapist. your child's confidence and understanding that is trying to help. You need an energy unlimited, be animated and I really enjoy teaching their children. It is not easy, experts say that could do that for not more than 10 to 12 hours per week. If both parents in turn, the task is of course much easier. Later, he presented a therapist or two to help you not be able to maintain a high level of energy over a long period. One of the advantages of doing initial work you is that you'll know a good therapist when you see and be able to remove those that are of little value to your child.

Election therapist
Choosing a good therapist for a child with autism is not easy if you have not worked with a child. Many parents are actually known capable of forming their new therapists. Therapists can be anyone with enough energy, enthusiasm, patience and genuine love for children. All children under 18 are often too young and immature (some are really scary!). The mothers of children often lack the time and energy and often do not like being told how to handle the children because they think they are the experts. One candidate told me how that regularly hit their own children when they misbehave. There no room for them in their home. A good tip is to make a short list of those who feel it may be appropriate and telling them not to be a period training a couple of weeks during which no payment. Many of them will be removed as work with an autistic child is very demanding and not not suit everyone.

Special schools
Although there are many excellent schools special at all, unfortunately, many lack the funds, staff and ill-equipped to teach children with autism. Generally not sufficient for not one-on-one support for children and worst of all, the child may have inappropriate behaviors of autistic children and others. I think it breaks my heart, because it is both an autistic child can learn in the critical early years.

Mainstream schools

Your goal is to have your child in a mainstream school. Three years of intensive one-on-one work at home are going well, in large part to the integration a successful child. Once a child with autism is the main program has won half the battle. I say this because would be prudent to continue to work with him at home. You may have to educate the principal and staff about autism and it's a good idea for you or your therapist or counselor (if applicable) to make a brief presentation. I highly recommend the link to your child's teachers cope with difficulties at school. You can use this information to work with him at home if you can not keep. Getting pre-school books and cover material in school is a good idea because it could work with those at home, reading to him at night, etc. so it is not new to him at school. It is advisable to keep your home therapists and assistants for your school and who know better than anyone What school helps others provided. It is necessary to discuss with the director of school before they enter school. Once they enter school, you may need to start with a few hours, for example. 2-3 hours per day and gradually increase to one day complete.

unequal abilities
A child with autism often have unequal powers, for example. Zones can exist very strong that the storage of images or words and reading at the beginning and weaknesses, such as making contact with their peers. It is necessary to first identify the strengths. It goes without saying that you should use these strengths to best advantage. For example, if the child has strong reading skills, explore this maximum. Many children with autism have strong visual skills. Use images to stimulate and refine your language. If the child learns to read and write before coming to school, will be one less thing to worry and have more time to acquire other skills you lack.

"My child does not speak at all! Where do I start? "
A distraught mother of a child with autism, once phoned me this question. Teaching speech to an autistic child is a step by step by step. A child can not run before you can walk. Before attempting to actual speech, you may want to teach a child according to the identical images, the images below, are not identical, ie corresponding to a red car with a different color. The next step is receipt of child language is required for the image, for example. a horse, cat, house, etc. (see next section). If your child can reach receptive language or has already reached this stage, it is promising because it can at least understand what you say and this will eventually lead him to express himself verbally. N be complacent, though, as his vocabulary may be limited. You must do what you can ensure that your vocabulary is extended as widely as possible.

receptive language
This is where the child understands what people say. Is this an important step in the evolution of a child with autism. It is still not enough for the child to understand a handful of words such as food, milk, etc. Bike typical seven a child can understand and use at least 10,000 words. An autistic child must have his receptive language increased as rapidly and as promptly as possible.

Receptive language software
The Tribunal discrete Trainer is a software can use the computer to teach your child a number of labels and sounds. What happens is that the screen shows images of children 2-5 and asked about the example the speaker. "Game". If the child clicks correctly with the right image Touch screen or mouse, which is rewarded with a little animation. When the label is mastered, the program proceeds to label Next, sometimes putting labels on the master to see if the child remembers. This CD was a great success. You can adjust the difficulty level and get a visual report of your progress. With this package can be used to teach classes such as letters, words, shapes, numbers, colors, objects, body parts, actions, or verbs.

Teaching with photos
"A picture is worth a thousand words" and use images is a great way to teach speech language and communication. Children with autism are very visual and can be taught almost anything what with the pictures. Temple Grandin, the renowned author of many books on autism Autism, once said she thinks in pictures. It takes thousands of good photographic images to help to say, "widespread" if a child with autism has a single photo of a white dog and taught it a dog that can not easily recognize a German shepherd or a rottweiler as a pet when he sees it. The use of new materials and varied also takes a child to be bored and frustrated. Reduce the number of wooden images or designs used. The true color photographic images of the material is better than more realistic and much easier for children to interact. You can never have too many photos of his collection. Get them from any place can be – magazines, old books, Web sites, printed catalogs, including spam!

Printing from a CD-ROM
The falling prices of computers and color printers has created a trend away from buying expensive flash cards printed with software TeachingPix2 our CD-ROM containing thousands of images on the education of photography in colors that can be printed from a PC home with a color printer in a small fraction of the cost. You can pay up to one dollar for each flashcard printing, printing, whereas our CD-ROM works with about 1 cent per impression. Another advantage of using a CD-ROM with a wide range of images is that you can select and print what you need at any time. You do not have to print all the images immediately. Images TeachingPix2 can have their labels or off. You can print images in sizes ranging from 1 per page (over) 8 per page (smaller). This CD-ROM with over 10,000 images to be printed in education is our most popular and widely used to teach children around the world. Images can be used in any education system, such as ABA PECS and correspondents including work with, receptive language and expressive language.

Printers
Modern color printers are not only much cheaper than they were a few, may also print photo-quality prints in common (photocopy) paper and does not require expensive special paper. If you print thousands of photos to use as maps, can be printed on special paper. You must be able to print photo-quality images to regular copy paper. If you already have a printer needs special paper to print thousands of photos, may be worth looking into getting a new printer. The new inkjet products of high quality text and images in color or black and white. Many inkjet printers today can print photographic images or BubbleJet and approach laser-quality text enough for the quality of more expensive laser printers. Personally, I use a Canon inkjet, although there are many other models of good quality but cheaper gas.

Printing in draft mode
Try printing draft mode. If the quality is almost as good as the best way you can be the value of printing in this mode, because the tracks are not only more faster but also cheaper because they use less ink.

Slide photos

Lamina your images to give them a life much longer. If you laminate a lot of pictures, a good idea is to buy First of all, a good plant. If you add more than one image by rolling the bag, insert images cut from the sheet of plastic with a space between each image to be cut later. After running through the bag laminator, cut between cards. Remember to round the sharp edges that easily could hurt someone. The equipment is recommended is 120 microns (more resistant) 150 microns thick. A good idea is to insert four images cut the letter (or A4) sheet of plastic. The bags can be purchased in packages of one hundred.

Using your own pictures

It's always a good idea to include your own pictures taken from the child's environment, members of the family, familiar places, sometimes, at school, classroom, school friends, etc. to teach children. Using a conventional camera (with film) is correct, but taking several hundred images not only is expensive, but it is not easy to resize photos, add tags to easily include images or other electronic documents you can create. The advent of digital photography allows you to take an unlimited number of images you can download to your computer. Once the downloaded images, the camera will reset and you can take the next batch. A great feature of the CD-ROM TeachingPix2 is that You can also view, resize and print their own digital camera images for use as cards.

The organization your cards

It is important to organize your cards or lose vital time looking for them when needed. My suggestion for the size maps to be used for educational purposes is to maintain a level of 4 depending on the size letter (or A4) page – much bigger and it will be difficult to archive images. A good idea is to get a set of cabinets on the map (preferably long) to present the cards in different categories, for example. animals, activities, food, vehicles, factories, etc. The cabinets are around we recommend 16 inches (42cm) long and can accommodate at least 200 each laminated flashcards. Take a plastic card with a photo when you look at the size of the cabinets. A good place to find the cabinets is a furniture store and equipment used. Can I use a drawer in each category. You can cut the cards with the name tags to highlight cards to subdivide the class for example. Animals – cats, dogs, chicken, etc.

Sales materials
Once a name, word or concept has been mastered by your child, you should turn to find the material not used the same image again and again that it can be very frustrating for an autistic child (another good reason to keep a large collection of images.) Good idea to make sure that your images are shot is "select forward and go back ", ie if you have 8 pictures of a cat, then click on the front of the camera and when you have finished its back to the rear of the assembly. In this way, the images are used consistently.

Working with sound
Many Autistic children have difficulty processing sounds or distinguish the sound of normal conversation. Therefore, they often appear deaf Despite a normal hearing. Typical children are able to "filter out" background noise of auditory information useful. Autistic children often have to attempt to block this bombardment of sound and kick in his own world. In many cases highlight their ears. In some cases, rock back and forth in an attempt to block the sensory head. Aa is important to teach these children to identify sounds. This goes a long way to solve the noise auditory information useful, such as instructions of a teacher, parents' voices, traffic, barking dogs, etc. Some sounds you can teach your child to be identified are:
Airplane, Ambulance, mourning Nena, Pipe, bathroom faucet, Bee, Bell, bicycle bell, blowing your nose, brush your teeth, cannonade, cat, chick, chicken, children playing, Chop, church bell, clap, countdown, cough, cow, Cricket Crow, Cry Baby, infant crying, dishes, dentist drill, dogs, dolphin, dog, drill, drum, duck, Rubber Ducky, bite the apple, a trumpet elephant, fan, fire, fire alarm, fire trucks, fireworks, flush, flute, food mixer, frog, goats, geese, fire, guitar, hair dryer, nail hammering, harp, helicopter, the neighing of horses, galloping horse, Jet, keyboard PC, kissing, kitten, knock on the door, laughing, lightning, Lion, Monkey, Motorcycle, Mouse, cut grass, the sea, the opening Coca Cola bottle, owl, parrot, peacock, piano, pig, pinball, police vehicle, washing, drilling Energy Rail Pass, whoop, saw wood, scissors, gulls, sea lions, sheep, shower, sneezing, a pool table, stirring the tea into the cup, Tambourine, Tap, film, paper torn, Telephone, tractors, trains, trucks, trumpet, Turkey, vacuum yawning One way is to use a cassette player and cards for the child to identify and / or sound for picture. An easier option is the "SpeakingPix" software.

The "SpeakingPix" CD-ROM (screenshot on the photo above) comes with more than 2,200 images, each with a voice that plays when clicked. You can save each voice or sound to the desired frequency. Included are all above the 150 sounds, each with a photo in the category of "Sounds" you can teach your child to identify. This product is a valuable tool in speech therapy. You can include your own images and voices or sounds and play sounds by clicking on the pictures. You can print what you see on the screen maps. It's a fun way to learn and identify sounds and voices.

Sensory questions
Autism is a sensory disorder that affects one or more of the meaning of the child:
Touch: An autistic child may be very sensitive to touch and can withstand close contact, fondling, etc., even their parents.
Sound: Some sounds can be overwhelming for an autistic child. They can even have ears to hear voices or sounds. Some children with extreme sensitivity to sound better answer if the teacher speaks to them gently.
Taste: Some textures of food could be unpleasant for a child with autism. Some children only eat a few selected foods.
Vision: An adult with autism said he could not bear to see the color yellow.
Smell: Some children show a marked preference for some often unusual odors.
You should take this into account when defining the learning environment for your child and be prepared to make adjustments.

The learning environment
A child with autism should start working in an environment quiet, without distractions. However, the real world is not sterile. A classroom of children can be very noisy. It is therefore to gradually introduce "noise" in the middle of your child's education. One way is to start with the doors and windows closed for a period of time, gradually open the doors and windows. We could also introduce a very soft music, turning his very slowly in recent weeks. If you find your child can not concentrate, reduce noise levels and start slowly.

Work on the Table
Work and focus on the table for an autistic child will not be easy, especially at first. The sessions very short, for starters. It is always tempting to go on when the child is doing well. But it will turn against the child if you keep working on an exercise over a long period. You know what the child does not initiate the following year, because it shows a lot of protest behavior. Always move slowly. Never reward a child who works well with more work. If you feel he has done particularly well in an exercise, let it go for a short break to do what he wants. Soon it will link the work and good reward. There may be times when you let go for a holiday only to come to the table without any protest.

Finish on a positive note
When you start a series of exercises with your child, you should always end on a positive note. If you fill out a year when the child has a tantrum, it will simply say that can complete your work with a fit of anger. A fit of anger can mean that the drill is too long, too difficult and even frustrating easy or boring. Sometimes the child does not complete an exercise. If this occurs, into doing something much easier to finish, for example. "Clap Your Hands" (applause) "Good, good boy, you go." This principle applies to all aspects of children's daily routine and activities. For example, if you brush your teeth tantrums and authorized to leave the bathroom while screaming, soon learns that the best way of brushing is to throw a tantrum. The only way is to ignore access anger (can be very difficult) and continue with the task, or at least until the anger has subsided. Let go forward, will teach you is rewarded for good behavior or completing the task.

Organized
You should put aside a space to do their job and maintain equipment such as toys, books, letters, photos, videos, etc. soon accumulate a large amount objects that should be available when needed. A good rack system to maintain its books, video tapes and a lot of good size stackable drawers for their cards, pictures and toys is a good idea. If your child has overcome his toys, store it in the garage. Some toys that have lost their reinforcement value may be referred to a later stage. For a child with autism appropriate play with toys provided is a plus. Do not store to get new toys. Join a toy library is a good idea to save money. Another idea is to create networks with other parents and sharing toys with them.

Deciphering
Reading is, of course, an essential skill without which a child can not go very far in school or society. A common mistake is to teach reading using only words, without pictures or other media. The child can learn to read first seen by memorizing the sequence of letters, but can not understand much of what you read. A better approach is to start by using images with text below. The child, then associate words with pictures. Do not teach your child to read words that do not know the meaning. The CD-ROM is above TeachingPix2 source images can be printed with or without labels to teach sight reading.

Phonics
Most teachers do not use the visual strengths of the child to complete this method of reading. The use of images makes the task more interesting and, of course, relevant. Again, you do not teach your child to read words that do not know the meaning. You must document what your child can read. Once you are sure you know the meaning of a word Note the word as "dominated".

Reading Software

Market a CD-ROM offering an approach CompuThera seven-step gradual discrete teaching of reading. It is designed for children who have difficulty learning through observation. It is intended Visual learners and children with traditional teaching methods can not motivate classic. Children with autism in this category CompuThera therefore will benefit most.
Addressed both receptive and expressive skills, cognitive treatment plan is based on elements dominate CompuThera advance the program with simple exercises, eventually leading to reading simple sentences.
The ability to read often results in autistic children the conceptual leap forward leader in communication. The CD-ROM supplied with complete instructions and one of the seven stages of reading to Visual learners and children with autism "manual therapists.

Use television as a teaching tool
My son learned the alphabet from Sesame Street. She loves watching movies.
When spelling tests to your child, do not just say, for example. "Spell Cat. "Try to do the work in the word you want to say, for example." What animal goes meow and drink milk. "When you say" Cat ", he said: "Great, lots of chat. This will help to establish links in mind that all children in developing countries need. Be imagination and use different clues each time.

Know when to fold
Once your child has mastered a year (or understanding a word, concept, spelling, reading or otherwise) should go ahead or get bored and frustrated, that could occur in bad behavior. A good rule of thumb is that if the child receives the proper exercise eight times out of 10 considered under control. Proceed to the next piece of gear, but dominated the exercise twice a week for two weeks, once a week for a month, then every two weeks for two months, then once a month for four months. Exercise is really controlled. Sure, you could be running several different programs that one day either. Work with your child will tell you that your children, but not to the point where the demands are very high. A good consultant to supervise their teaching schedule is worth examining.

What is a consultant do?
Initially, a consultant to establish a baseline that is to check if the child is under development and thus the development of an educational program to follow on a daily basis. Ideally, ask your counselor once a week. On a weekly basis, a good consultant will work closely with your child for two hours while watching very closely – have to do the same work during the following week. After working with the child, the counselor to talk to parents and decide on the work done in the next week. With our son, we maintain a worksheet live the work we have done during the week. When the consultant came in, she might consider printing and see at a glance they were during the week. At the end of the meeting, which will change the map to include new programs. A counselor will tell you what programs are to initiate, continue dropping.

Recording Method
With several different exercises to schedule your child must have some sort of registration system. Keep track of the years of a child and the progress is very important. If this is not done, there is a risk of not remembering what the child has learned. It frustrates the child using materials repeatedly and worst of all that I can download material from a drill until you have mastered. A simple but effective way is to record child progress in a spreadsheet like Excel. Keep track of images, words, etc. are controlled, and the next, gives you an easy way to turn the material so that the child is not bored with elements under control, it remains focused on the current hardware and provides time to working on obtaining new information and ideas can be added to the list. The full program can be done in a single file at each program on another worksheet in the file.

The most frequently used words

Webster's Dictionary Complete has more than 460,000 words. However, approximately 75% of all words used in textbooks, library books, newspapers and magazines are on the Dolch vocabulary for base of only 220 words! These words are about again, everything, always, I am one, and there in all, how to ask, at, ate, away, either because he has already done, better, better, big, black, blue, both, to brown, but, buy, call, came, can carry, clean and cold, we could reduce, do, do, do, do, down, draw, eat, drink, eight, falling every now quickly find, first, five screens, for, found, four of everything, funny, you give, get, give, go, go, go, well, I have green, grow, has, ha, ha He aid it, here, him, her, keep warm, it hurts, I, if, one, namely, cases, jumping, keep, kind, know, laugh, and much light, too little, directly, well, look, the fact that many may, in my opinion, much more must I, myself, never, new, no, not now, in, out, had once been one, only, open, our, or outside, over, possess, produce, play, if Please, pretty, draw, make, running, reading, walking in red, running around Right Said seen, for example, see, seven, she, it, see, sing, sit, six, sleep, small, therefore, some, soon, start, stop, go, say, ten, thanks to their means, they, then, there are those, I believe this, this, three, for now, and also two small, large, approximately, we use very, walking, want, warm, was, wash Well, it was, were, what, when, where, what, white, who, why, voluntad, deseo, con el trabajo, that Escribe, amarillo, sí, tú, you.
And these words by hand and teach your child as soon as possible. They put pictures on your wall or bulletin board with the tabs below. When the child start reading this list should keep on hand. Some concepts such as "believe" and "desire" comes from simple things like the "jump" and "drink" but hey, Rome was not built in a day! An excellent source of words is the ladybird book series called "Map Reading Keywords" which is a set of storybooks for children carefully organized to include the 1,200 most common words in the English language. These well-illustrated books gradually the language of the child.

Hitting a brick wall

Some educators say it is up the wall brick that will not be able to go beyond a certain point in teaching a child with autism. Do not believe it. We were told that our son would not be able to read beyond the standard 200 words. At age 6 I could read and understand over 1,000 words and to write more than 400 with his vocabulary more more each day. When you reach a brick wall, which does not break your head against it. Find a way around! Also, do not believe everything the doctors say. You can find out for yourself what are the strengths and weaknesses of your child while you work with him.

Computer Use as a teaching tool

Autistic children are generally very strong visual learners can benefit greatly from a computer at home. However, it is much more expensive and popular software out there with very little reinforcement and of little educational value. The best software you can edit the information and enter new materials and building. Reinforcement is fundamental (and virtually nonexistent in most software learning) to maintain the child's interest and participation. The software must also be easy to use – easy for a parent to use and change and, of course, if the child is to run software should be easy for him to do. Our son is nearly 150 CD-ROM in your collection software. I'm always looking for new software that interest you.

Dietary Intervention

At least 50% of children with autism respond to dietary intervention. The main culprits are casein (found in dairy products) and gluten (found in wheat, barley, rye and oats). Many researchers suggest that the incomplete digestion of gluten and / or casein enters the bloodstream and wreaks havoc on the system of the child, affecting brain function and learning processes. Many parents find that foods gluten casein and their children idle, lazy and space. Others say that these foods trigger episodes of extreme aggression or self-injury.

Vitamin E
Recent studies show that vitamin E reduces oxidative stress and may be able to protect against chemical damage that can cause autism. Excellent sources of vitamin E are sunflower seeds raw almonds, olives, papaya, turnips and spinach.

Drugs

There is still no drug to cure the core symptoms of autism, but some can mitigate behavior problems. Antidepressants like Prozac can reduce repetitive behaviors. Stimulants like Ritalin may decrease hyperactivity. The anti-psychotic medications can reduce aggression and hyperactivity. Beware of side effects, however. Recent studies have shown that children can suffer from side effects of Ritalin attacks hair loss heart. Risperdal is used to treat irritability associated with autistic disorder, including temper tantrums, self-injury and aggression in children and adolescents between 5 and 16. The approval is the first to use a drug to treat behaviors associated with autism in children. Risperdal first approved by the FDA in 1993, has been used to treat schizophrenia and bipolar disorder in adults. The anti-psychotic drug is not a cure for autism, nor treat the disease itself, but may provide relief for some children.

Nothing can replace
No matter if you use the intervention diet, enzymes, drugs or other drugs, none of them is a substitute for early intervention is, education must continue to teach his son use This window of opportunity to its best advantage. No other single intervention has proven itself.

Exercise

All children benefit from the exercise. Autistic children showed marked improvement with vigorous exercise, especially with the concentration and condition warning. Daily life therapy developed by Dr. Kiyo Kitahara died in Tokyo, Japan focuses on education through systematic dynamic group, the mix of academics and technology, art, music and physical education vigorously. The Boston Higashi School Daily Life Therapy applies. Now famous in the U.S. for its high success rate in helping children with autism. It is true that a healthy mind in a healthy body there. You have to improvise when teaching their children to play and exercise. For example, if you feel your child is not ready for badminton, try to get them to hit a ball into play instead of a wheel. This is an excellent exercise to help with the coordination of a child and may be a precursor to badminton and tennis.

Auditory information
It was believed that autistic children can receive and / or process auditory information. Indeed, many children were deaf. Has been tested only relatively recently that the reverse is actually the case. Typical children can filter out background noise and selectively listen to the speech and the corresponding sound. Children with autism can not filter out noise background. Therefore, someone to talk to them could well be the sound of a car driving past. Naturally, the enormous quantity auditory stimulation can easily crush a child with autism. In some cases, the child with the intention of blocking the stimulus by holding the ears or rocking back and forth. The best way to calm an autistic child is to reduce noise and other stimuli levels right down. Bright colors Flashing can also be painful for him. As mentioned previously, autism is a sensory dysfunction and the five senses could cause problems in a child with the disease.

Sleep

Getting enough sleep is very important for an autistic child and that the burden of recovery during the day, it will be much bigger than a typical child.

Stim
Stimulate the behavior or "stim 'When the child is doing something repetitive, like hand flapping or running here and there. Stimulation is usually a defense mechanism child when under stress or when you need to relax, for example. when he comes home from school. A little Stimming be tolerated by parents. How else is interested in is the perfect way to avoid this problem.

Echolalia
It is when the child is to repeat (sometimes repeatedly) what you hear without having to understand what you say. Although this is not the best behavior, the child can at least express words and can be taught speech and language. You can use it for the greatest benefit for get your child to express a variety of words, which are used in subsequent years. Better yet, show her a picture of what you say before to say that.

verbal stimulation
The child may stutter repeatedly over a number of things such as your favorite television or film. Many experts say to stop all the infancy of his son. I totally disagree with this for the simple reason that even children típicos balbuceo como un precursor al discurso General in torno a 1.5 años de edad. Children with autism begins later stage of speech and who will start babbling. Everything you need to do is establish with him when he is right (for example, when at home) and when it is not, ie in public.
It must be taught to read the reactions of others to verbal stimulation. You need to work with him that silence or nonverbal. In fact, you can expand on what is Stimming by conversation, drawing and role playing in an attempt to transform this stimulation in a learning process.

Adrenaline Rush

All children need a break from work. Consider this passage of the Women's Week: "The short bursts, intense emotion can actually be stronger and better able to manage stress and prolonged stress have a day off work and organize. spend it something I always wanted to do – but it is a challenge that makes you nervous a little something, that expands the boundaries of your own! Book a flight in a hot air balloon, go roller coasters or skydiving, or plan a day at the races with friends. Learn how to rally drive, or take a trip to the sea where you can see whales and dolphins. Take the time to do something new, exciting and a little fear may trigger the biological response of fight or flight ", floods the body with stress hormones. But once the race is more or jumping, hormonal changes which are quickly reversed and anxiety is replaced by euphoria. Research at the University of Nebraska confirms this idea, showing that the "fever" that receives physiological arousal leads to intermittent stress response in the short term can be as effective in the fight against stress and the exercise repeated. "What The same applies to all children, so they have their point of adrenaline and avoid prolonged work at home or at school.

Pause

Comme nous tous, your child will need a complete break from work a few months. Some parents have reported an increase in the floor when they withdrew their children from the city or on vacation. Returning to work with him, perhaps to start slowly and build on more than a week or two.

Train

I often get mothers to call and ask about bowel and bladder control. Toilet training usually begins children around 2 to 3 years. When you feel your child is ready, you must remove the layer and make you feel the discomfort of dirt in their pants during some time before the change. You need to start training to urinate. To start training, it is necessary to reserve a weekend. You Need a timer bell or tone, a portable toilet that can sit and a lot of reinforcement, for example. candy, chocolate or other rewards. Do this exercise in the room or playground Give plenty of fluids to drink – juice, water, lemonade, etc. Set the timer goes off every 15 minutes Whenever he leaves, I feel it in the toilet for about a minute. Do not push him to do something. If this happens, even a little urine, immediately reward him with the rewards associated with work. Allow access to portable toilets until ready to use the toilet regularly.

Encourage independence

A child with autism should be encouraged to do things for himself. A system called backward chaining can be useful in this case by a task that can be divided into stages. A simple example is to draw pants. To start, pulling his pants for him until they were almost done and the rest. To do this, for several days until you get the hang of it. Then try to get that start between the knees and hips. Before you know, being from the ankles up. Well it's a long time and many parents simply dress the child themselves, the extra effort involved in the chain reverse encourage the child to be independent and self-esteem. When your language skills improve, bring something that wants in a place like McDonald's, as you watch from afar. Choose a quiet moment at the beginning when he did not have to queue because it is a feat en soi. Another important area where there must be a child with autism is to teach safety principles to their environment.

awareness security and autism

Security should be encouraged from an early age. Crossing the road is difficult for a young child and would have to take the child's hand is always nearby traffic. However, instilling the basic concept of traffic awareness can begin early. What I did with my own son to hold her hand and ask him to tell me when you can cross it, just ask, "Is-Is safe? "I feel anxious when I saw him cross the street to your favorite video library. It is quickly developed that I had to look both ways before you answer "yes" or "no." In one week, he understood the concept completely. Education generalization is often a problem for children with autism. To teach a child with autism to generalize the principle of not run into the street, should be taught in many different places. If you teach in one place, the child thinks that the rule applies only to a specific location.
Do not miss the opportunity to teach your child. A parent had reported great success with your child when he was out of play on the trampoline or swing. She would recite rhymes and songs with a much more successful here than they were Within the table.
Studies have shown that the changes are the leading cause of injury to children in the yard. Very small children with autism are particularly at risk because they become more aware of the danger. After several close calls, I had the idea to hang consciousness they had to stay away from a heavy mass of the pendulum.

For your child to interact with the computer

A just 12 months and young children are still able to sit in the opening laps of their parents and interact with a computer at home. Very few children under three years is able to operate a mouse. Do not waste time waiting for that to happen. A child will be able to use a touch screen long before you can use a mouse. Touch screens allow a child to navigate around a program by touching the screen directly instead of co-relationship of hand movements with the mouse cursor (a feat difficult for some adults!).

Screens tactile

There are two types of touch screens:
a) where the monitor screen is touch sensitive (expensive)
b) the extension of the touch screen, shown below, which can be placed on your existing monitor (cheaper alternative). The add-on will be delivered with software and an adapter to connect the mouse input. Get one that allows using your mouse and your child can use the mouse when you're ready. Leave the mouse on the keyboard. His son finally start using the mouse and then you can exclude the touch screen add-on.

Other children
An autistic child should be encouraged to play and associate with typical children their age or little older. Given the choice, encourage them to interact more vocal, animated children instead of shy children, reassured by what his speech will be encouraged. Children usually respond better feedback from their peers than their parents or therapists. Seeing them play together. Those who engage in the game will be more advantageous for him. Playing with other dates is an excellent idea. Autistic children often do not like going to new places and seeing faces unknown. Brothers and sisters are always a great advantage. Imitation and movement are the cornerstones of communication. From a young age, be exposed to different environments as many people as possible.

Talk her son

If you remember only one thing of this document, Please remember this – The best and simple tips for those who have a child with autism is to continue to talk to his son, telling him what you do, what is happening and what will happen. Autistic children like routine and can be used it the best of it. Terms of use rather easy for children to understand and, of course, speak at a speed that the child can absorb. Avoid lengthy verbal instructions. People with autism have difficulty remembering the sequence. If the child can read, write instructions on a piece of paper. A program or graph the daily events and events in the day, preferably in the form of images that can be placed on a bulletin board is an excellent idea. If the child can read a written list can often help. If you can not read, however, you must use the images.

What not to teach your child
A typical child can easily take two or more languages before the age of six. However, I suggest you never try to teach a child with autism as a language. In addition, many other subjects such as science mathematics, etc., are important in maintaining the focus on your child's speech and language. Not much use to force the issue any further questions, if the capacity of language your child can not follow.
The second is that of religious studies. Concepts such as God, hell, devil, heaven and style can be very confusing and even frightening concepts to a child with autism. Personally, I leave this task to a much later stage in child development. There many other things you can teach your child about half an hour.

Singing
Encourage your child to join the school choir or singing courses. Autistic children speak in a monotone. Singing will help develop range of the voice of his son.

Mathematics

Establishment of mathematical situations to real life is much are more challenging than just writing on paper to be creative and use real objects, money, prices at the supermarket, etc.

Always
insist on an answer
Once the child begins to respond to you in any way, whether verbal, with a picture, symbol or other, always, always, always insist on an answer to asked anything. It is much easier to do the opposite, but if you do, you learn early is able to get away with lack of reactivity and communication affected.

Stress Management
At some point you may need to work stress management with your child. These exercises should be performed when the child is calm, work towards the use of these techniques when you're stressed.

Listen to your child
A Once your child becomes verbal must document what he knows and understands. Listen to your child and to document the new words that you think you know or should know. I started with a handful of words in an Excel spreadsheet. Maintenance this document so that my son was very valuable because she said the words he knew and understood. The list has grown to over a thousand words in less 12 months. It also introduced new words often used in the list and pictures to ensure they knew what that meant. Not equipped with a Live document, you may lose your child the words and, finally, have a very limited vocabulary.

Monitor your child

If one parent is a chance that a "scribbler" for a child, ie a child who loves to scribble text and images, then a) ensure that a lot of paper and writing hand. b) what is scribbling notes. It is likely that any text that dribble a text that was ago, and possibly understand. You should check these words in the word bank. If not, enter them in. Of course, it is important to observe how he interacts with other children and how they interact with him. S'il ya très peu d'interaction, il peut être temps de trouver de nouveaux amis pour lui. Friends who make the effort involve in the game are worth their weight in gold. Sometimes I gave in a little corruption with friends of my son for example. play this game and we go to McDonald's afterwards. It is true that children need reinforcement, but their friends may need litt
